How about "Gomer Pyle, USMC"? Of course, you need to enjoy watching the Andy Griffith Show. <g>

W.E.B. Griffin writes entertaining stories about the troops, including Marines. Often, he writes from the grunt's perspective. If you are new to him, I suggest starting with his first book. He uses many of the same characters throughout the various stories. Fast and easy read. He employs a good mixture of historical facts in with his fictional characters.
