what's the cost? i'm lazy and that form is not too understandable imo.

from copyright.gov

Put into one envelope or package:

* a completed application Form SR
* a $30 payment to "Register of Copyrights."
* nonreturnable copy(ies) of the material to be registered

If you really can't read or understand that, you might ask an adult high school graduate to help you.

It takes six months to get it back but the copyright is dated from the day they receive your application. If you're not performing in public or recording, or selling CDs or internet downloads, there isn't any reason to do it.

If you are recording and getting any air play or internet play, or selling downloads, apply to ASCAP and register your songs there in addition to the copyright office.

If you're doing any of the things above, you need a business guide to music biz asap and someone to read it, explain the basic points, and sign documents for you.
