In HK we have a smart card based ID, and it contains lots of good information. When we enter HK we press our thumb to a self-service reader on one of many entry/exit portals, and we are through. The same card can be used as a library card :0)

Frankly, should such reader devices be attached to bank ATM and PCs, a whole lot of credit card based transactions can be fraud-proof, or a whole lot of people will be missing their thumbs.
