Nexen Says Knotty Head "potential world class" yahoo.reuters.com Wed Mar 22, 2006 7:47 AM ET T ORONTO, March 22 (Reuters) - Nexen Inc. said late on Tuesday it will ramp up the appraisal of its interest in a well in the Gulf of Mexico region after results showed it to be "a potential world-class discovery."
Nexen, which along with Anadarko Petroleum Corp., BHP Billiton, and Chevron Corp. each own a 25 percent interest in the well, said the resource estimate for the field is 200 million to 500 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Late last year, the partners said they had discovered oil in the deepest well ever drilled in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico region, in Green Canyon block 512 about 170 miles southeast of New Orleans.
The Knotty Head No. 1 well, which hit 600 feet of net pay oil sand, was drilled to a depth of just over 34,000 feet in about 3,500 feet of water. |
