Canadian ferry sinks; all aboard safe Wednesday, March 22, 2006 Posted: 1424 GMT (2224 HKT) TORONTO, Ontario (Reuters) -- A Canadian ferry carrying 102 passengers and crew sank off the coast of British Columbia early Wednesday, and all aboard are believed safe, CBC News reported. According to a report on CBC's website, The Queen of the North sank shortly after 4:00 EST (0900 GMT) near the Queen Charlotte Islands. The vessel tipped to one side, and took about an hour to sink, allowing passengers to gather in lifeboats. The CBC report said officials were waiting for one more rescue ship carrying survivors to arrive before confirming that all passengers and crew are safe. The ferry, which was on a 450-kilometer (279.6 mile) journey from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy, can hold up to 700 people and 115 cars.
