That attribution, and others using the same quote, has been shown to be false. That is, there is no original documentation that shows Henry ever said anything of the kind.
Has it gotten to the point where the right just make quotes up to bolster their positions? I guess so.
If so, I declare the following quote from Thomas Jefferson:
"The neocons are full of crap".
Well, I guess that's not a direct quote, but if we're making stuff up, it captures what I think he'd have said. Just like your Patrick Henry quote.
You do realize the irony of making a statement about democracy, the US, the Constitution, etc, by quoting Patrick Henry, don't you? Sort of like attempting to make an argument for civil rights by quoting Lester Maddox... |
