The pretence is in exaggeration. If the admin takes a position that no errors have been made, the results are deteriorating support from a reasonable public. If the opposition insists that there are conspirators behind every Bush the result is a loss of support for their position. Reasonable human beings are driven by their nature to look for positions of strength and growth opportunity. A focus on failure is too anxiety producing and results in avoidance, not action. As Thomas Edison said, “Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do in the first place doesn't mean it's useless.... Results? Why, man, I have gotten lots of results! If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward.... “ We need leaders who take stock in what is not working, plan for change and renewal and take progressive steps to achieving success.
