Allen...."Note the use of the word "effectively" in the phrase "effectively aided and abetted bin Laden's operations".

This means that, in the writer's view, Clinton's actions had the effect of aiding and abetting bin Laden's operations, though he is aware that was not Clinton's intent. "Effectively" in this context means there was no intention.
"....

Agreed. I don't think for a second that clinton and NATO intentionally tried to help bin laden...the enemy. But it appears that that is exactly what has happened. And it is a problem.

....."You could say the same thing about Bush. His actions have caused a huge increase in the numbers of radical Islamists who have dedicated themselves to the West's destruction. He has, therefore, effectively aided and abetted bin Laden's recruitment program.".....

I strongly disagree with that statement. I suppose the best way to explain my point of view is for us to consider the millions upon millions of radical muslims that rioted and killed people in cities all over the world over some silly cartoons.... Not Bush nor clinton nor anyone from the civilized created these people or caused them to behave in the manner they did. Radical religious teachings over hundreds of years created the situation we in the free world find ourselves in today. IMO in the past Carter and Regan both helped make radical islam stronger.....during the cold war the USA administration actually helped arm radical islam in their effort to defeat the USSR.

Bush is confronting radical islam and the mistakes of the past
and IMO there will be more mistakes in the future. Bush did not create any radical islam crazies there were always there only requiring an excuse to riot and murder and something as simply as a cartoon was enough to set these crazies off.

IMO Iraq is just one front in the war against radical islam and this is a war the free world better win and that will require a united front from the free world and so far that is not happening.... to many people trying to score political points instead of confronting the enemy united.

Anyway, you brought up some good intelligent points and it is nice for a change to get a chance to debate in polite manner on this thread.
