Oh pleaaaase Bob!

09/18/97 Pittman says AOL cyberspace is splitting
NEW ORLEANS, Sept 18 (Reuter) - The cyberspace market may be splitting
into users who want more sophisticated computer services and users
who want things kept nice and simple, AOL Networks chief executive
Robert Pittman said Thursday speaking at the National Association of
Broadcasters convention
``The market may be segmenting, with professional people wanting computers more complicated and other consumers (wanting programs) more simple,'' Pittman said. But the pending acquisition of CompuServe means AOL will have a foot in both camps, he added.

Until 09/08 CSi was characterized by AOL partisans and the media as a
dying dinosaur, unable to evolve. Today it's at the vanguard of a major market segment. Not. Unless AOL plans to spend huge sums attempting to revamp it to competitiveness with the Web, which is what has continued to erode the CSi base. Presmuably, all CSi subs attracted by AOL at $19.95 long ago left.

Not to mention that characterizing the distinction as "simple" vs.
"complicated" is invidious. Nobody wants complicated. But many are
willing to be more venturesome to get faster, better access to vastly
more and diverse content -- most of which is visually far more
appealing than text surrounded by static graphics in windows barely
1/4 of client screen size.
