"The Unit" second episode Tuesday night portrayed just such a rescue of Christian missionaries in Indonesia. In the story, two missionaries bolted after being rescued, but were retrieved and rerescued single-handedly by the main man.

I'm a little uncomfortable with both sides of this concept.

On the one hand, Christian missionaries have done tremendous good in third world countries. I didn't like the tacit putdown portrayed in "The Unit" episode, nor do I cotton to the idea of an all-powerful military unit whose mission it is to save us whether we like it or not.

On the other hand, people who put themselves in harm's way in unstable areas have no one but themselves to blame if they get in trouble. They alone are responsible for their predicament, and should not expect a valiant effort to rescue them.
