Surprised, KLP. Not me, after more than 39 years among the professorate as a professional teacher and administrator.

The first place on earth where one would expect to be able to witness and participate in "free inquiry and debate" is the university. But the modern university, controlled as it is by the liberal and elitist mentality, is not about to permit free inquiry and debate.

What it will permit is a constant repetition by its intellectual lackeys of the popular shibboleths and jargon which it forces on its students and colleagues ad infinitum ad nauseum. And those intellectual lackeys' main efforts appear to be concentrated on maintaining a strict adherence by themselves and others to the current politically correct dogma as proclaimed by their leaders.

This is what got Summers as it will get anyone else who dares to practice and espouse free inquiry and debate, particularly if the results of that free inquiry happens to contradict the opinions of the reigning elitist mentality.
