there are real numbers before the adjustments.

having said that the NAR existing home sales is still a survey number. They should be able to provide exact numbers by adding up all the local boards, which would not be difficult in this computer age. Just like unemployment claims, we have real time data if the government chooses to provide it. How hard is it to sum up all the claims from all the unemployment offices.

finally, some of these indexes are pretty silly. Just like Bob Dylan said, "you don't need the weatherman to tell you which way the wind is blowing." Each of us can call our local broker and find out what the market is like without having to read some government or NAR report.
