No I didn't Don, as I explained. I was an engineer once, I had 50 people working for me but I would never do it now. I think engineering has become a sweatshop. No americans want to do it anymore (unless they are working at Google).

In 1992, when I was about 28, I made $62 per hour consulting in my engineering field. I came from DB tech then, but now I am in internet business development. TODAY, 14 years later do you know that engineering rates are actually LOWER for the workers my companies hire than in 1992 for me? My startup company routinely pays about $50 per hour for people who have a higher skillset than I did in 1992. How can that be, hmmm? Why would salaries in the US be lower than 14 years ago for ANY profession much less engineering?

Do Doctors make less than they did 14 years ago? Finance people? Executives?

There is only ONE GROUP making less than they did 14 years ago- US engineering talent. Its just that simple. And go figure, we can't build anything anymore, and there is a "shortage of talent". Amazing.

Now before you tell me $50 per hour is some outrageously high rate for a UI lead, let me point out that there is at least 25% overhead in that salary, for the agency. This person with 10 years experience in search marketing is making $80K with no benefits and trying to live in silicon valley. Surprise! Its an H1B too. No americans want to make the equivalent of $55K after working for 10 years in a difficult field like UI design. Can you imagine that?
