____Sequent To Demo A NUMA-Q System Running NT____ Sequent Computer Systems will demonstrate at Oracle World a 32 processor version of its NUMA-Q clustered system running Windows NT. The Intel-based NUMA-Q system is available now running Sequent's version of Unix, but this is the first time the Beaverton, Ore., vendor will demonstrate its high-end NUMA-Q system running NT. Eventually, Sequent will offer both Unix and NT on the same partitioned system, officials have stated.
The demonstration is part of the company's plan to give data- center managers a road map for NT implementation inside the glass house. The system vendor will continue to support a shared-everything architecture with Unix, but is ready to support the shared-nothing architecture of high-end NT.
The demonstration will run on NT 4.0 enterprise edition, Intel Pentium Pro chips, and Oracle's parallel database. Sequent plans to ship the system when both NT 5.0 and the Deschutes chip from Intel are available next year, and will offer it as both a new purchase or a system upgrade. -- Martin J. Garvey |
