Re: They didn't wait in exile for the Messiah to take them to the Promised Land -- they simply took it by tricks and by force. Which is the reason for my question -- What is the point of being Jewish when the basis for the religion is already moot? As religious Jews would argue, Zionists are atheists...

I think it's subtler than that: Zionists are idolizers or fetishists(*). Just like their fugitive forebears escaping from Egypt, they've failed their God, out of despair, and started worshipping an idol, namely, the Israeli "Iron Calf"... They somehow missed the symbolic, allegorical nature of the Promised Land myth. Hence they erroneously took it at face value and saw the setting-up of the Israeli state as its fulfillment. So the question for both Zionist and non-Zionist Jews is, where's Moses? Where's their leader Moses with a new Covenant to bring back his people to its God and away from the Israeli idol?
