I thought the whole ROFL thing was kind of rude, since we disagreed. So I edited, because I thought it was rude. I wasn't going to mention the editing, but then I thought you might feel I had insulted you, and edited THAT out, and I didn't want you to feel I had done that. I consider the source too, but on the other hand, one doesn't want to be rude even to people who consider one a source to be considered.
Actually I'm not pro-tenure. I'd like to see bad teachers weeded out, but since most people are, by definition average, I think we're stuck with the mediocre. I doubt the teacher's union will come around to my way of thinking though, and on balance I still think the union does more good than harm.
While teachers are part of the problem, it's clear in California that our biggest problems are money and the impact of special ed requirements (which bears on money), and the impact of Hispanics. I can't remember reading any study that didn't suggest that the triumvirate of problems previously mentioned, or some dyad of the above, wasn't the major cause of California school woes. |
