Chip. Triple witching. Sorry for this late reply. I saw the headline from Sonki's post to you and thought she answered the question. Well, I just read it and realized she did not really answer it.gg.

Anyhow here it goes: On triple witching, I think it comes every 3 mos., the options, futures and stock index futures expire all on that Friday. This generally causes a very volatile day in the market. It used to be that there were great swings but lately traders are starting to do their thing earlier in the week all the way up til Friday. It lessens the volatility some. Watch it make a liar out of me now, gg.

Today is an extra special day! You could call this Friday a quintuple witching. The bond futures or options expire also and there is a options or futures expiry in Europe. I am not into those things so I can't exactly remember what the last 2 are. options or futures.

So far the volatility is very minimal. If this keeps up we might not see anything until the end of the day when the OEX expiry comes in. The word at this point is that we might have a tendency to the buy side in the last hour, even if it might be small.
