I'm sure I've mentioned that my husband's first degree was geology. We can't drive anywhere without a running commentary on the geologic history of what we're passing through (and although this sounds a little odd, we've all come to really appreciate it.) I don't think most people appreciate the huge inland seas that used to exist here in N. America. When you take geology classes in college they really hammer home that we live on a WATER planet- and it can get way more watery than it is now. People just don't seem to have a healthy enough appreciation of this.
