yes- the "entire group" in India was apparently done for Google finance. Google is a multinational company, they have R&D everywhere. Some say G finance is not a success but it was the first pass at this, and after all, yahoo finance has not changed in what, 5 years? I'll bet if yahoo had the wherewithall to compete with google in this they would fail.

But the problem is these are US companies not indian companies we are talking about so to have a US company like Dell and move ALL R&D to india is a pipe dream. The executive direction is completely missed by the team on the other side of the world.

Little offshoot products like G finance work, but only because there is a framework put in place overall by the US team.

Gartner and Mackenzie understand that the entire kit and caboodle of architecture and etc cannot be shipped off to india. But what they are trying to promote (and have done so, successfully to the detriment of our tech industry/companies)- is that the "support staff" which is QA, coding, docs and in the hosted world IT- can by moved without any damage to the underlying effort. WAY WAY WRONG. First, those that are left are viewed as so grossly overpriced compared to the indian teams which are "just as good", next the quality of job goes way down when all you can do is talk in a box every night at 11 pm, the whole ecosystem is destroyed.

The thing that bugs people like me about it, is this targeting for offshoring seems to be directed at engineering only. Finance and ops are unscathed.
