I think that yours is a wrong assumption, CB. Fear and loathing of immigration is, in my opinion, strongly correlated with globalization of the world's economy. I think most Americans, and certainly can speak for myself, think that the ILLEGALS are breaking the law. Most Americans abide by the law, or at least do try to do so. To willingly let ILLEGALS come in AND break the laws that are currently on the books is a mockery. And it simply doesn't matter what color they are. At least not in this area of the country. Maybe in the East it does... And Yes, most of my ancestors were here before 1850-1875 as well... When my ancestors immigrated to what became America, all they had to do was take an oath of loyalty when they landed. They all did this, and I've been lucky enough to find some of those original papers they signed.
