I see your point. I'd like to stop population growth at, oh, 200,000,000.

A stagnating population is pretty much a guaranteed way to reduce a nations standard of living....especially considering the way we fund our social programs. The demographics of Japan and Europe arent pretty and China is going to start seeing some problems in the coming decades.

The US is still a young, dynamic country and a large part of that is due to immigration. We get the best ideas, culture, and people from the rest of the world. Yes, we should stop illegal immigration, but having a zero-growth population would be an absolute disaster for the country.
