Hi Tito, I bet you paid less for that new monitor than you did for the old one and the new one has more and better features. How long do you expect to keep the new monitor before you replace it 3 years? 5 years? You will keep it until it has no value, same as 95% of the consumer market, same with most consumable products. Just how many monitors, cell phones, utility appliances does an individual need. Once a consumer buys a product he will "wear it out" until it becomes obsolete thus he is a 1 time purchaser, short term. This is part of the cyclic nature of consumerism whereby, there is no need for new purchases until something better or cheaper to buy or operate comes along. It follows the cycle of industiral development and innovation. $500 computers are now a reality, but the margins are really low as is the cost to manufacture, this means margins will be squeezed even lower, and this is only 1 example.
More, faster, cheaper but with lower profit margins per device.
Quite a dillema, huh?
