New Tools Support the Implementation and Use of Consumer-Directed Healthcare Plans
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2006--A.D.A.M., Inc. (Nasdaq: ADAM) today announced the addition of A.D.A.M. DecisionAssist and A.D.A.M. Health Risk Assessment Reporting Tools to its portfolio of consumer-directed health solutions. These two new products are the latest components of A.D.A.M.'s Decision Support Suite, a platform for providing health assessments and targeted health messaging to employees and plan members. The new tools are designed to help employers and payers control the rising costs of healthcare by promoting smarter healthcare decisions within target populations. According to America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), enrollment in health savings accounts, a key component of most consumer-directed health plans, has tripled since March 2005. As employers and payers roll out these new plan configurations, employees need access to decision support tools that help them better manage their health spending. A.D.A.M. DecisionAssist helps consumers make more informed choices about their use of healthcare services, such as whether to have a particular surgery, proceed with a test, take certain medications, or see a specialist.
A.D.A.M. DecisionAssist tools are unique in the industry in that they are simple and easy to use, with an interactive step-by-step process to personalize the decision-making process. The tools also provide key points, questions to ask the doctor, and alternative options. A.D.A.M. plans to roll out future DecisionAssist tools to address every major chronic disease, as well incorporate cost-of-service data.
A.D.A.M.'s Health Risk Assessment Reporting Tools provide important information to administrators about the health stratification of employees, members, or other end users. Organizations that use the tools can access and analyze health risk data from their population to determine which high-cost areas should be targeted for health improvements programs, such as asthma, obesity, back pain or diabetes. The data from A.D.A.M.'s tools gives employers the ability to promote healthy habits in their workforce, reduce absenteeism, and improve worksite productivity.
"The growth of consumer-directed healthcare has placed greater decision-making responsibilities in the hands of healthcare consumers, creating a need for tools like DecisionAssist and Health Risk Assessment Reporting," says Greg Juhn, senior vice president of product development at A.D.A.M. "The introduction of these tools enhances A.D.A.M.'s ability to provide a comprehensive suite of online tools to address the needs of the employer and payer markets."
