I don't know about your dad's HMO, but if he called Kaiser and told them he had a growth on his forehead it wouldn't take long to get an appointment.

I am the kind of person who goes running to the doctor for every little thing. $10 co-pay is awful sweet.

But I am also the kind of person who bugs the lab when they forget to give me all my tests, and calls them to get the results instead of waiting for them to call me. And I have medical textbooks and my own copy of the Physicians Desk Reference, and get various medical newsletters.

They do take preventative care seriously, but it's "push" instead of "pull." I push.

I don't expect everybody to like pushing, or even be any good at it.
