John, RE: "a study suggests that low end wages for citizens are reduced by 8% because of illegal immigration. That's very bad, and I suspect the number is understated"

Isn't the economic solution to increase the minimum wage?

I don't see American-born citizens working in the construction industry during hot 101 degree weather. I also believe these people eventually become legal and contribute to taxes that will help pay for the boomer's SS and Rx.

I'd rather see this country focus on two more important items: prosecuting mafia-like criminals (there are some bad towns in California that are run-over by mafia-like criminals) and focus on increasing RND innovation/science so this country can reduce the trade imbalance and pay off its enormous debt so it doesn't turn into a dictatorship.

I definitely agree there needs to be more tightening of the immigration situation, but it doesn't seem logical to go after the hard-working ones first. I'd rather set the right priorities and go at it in the proper order of what's more important to this country's future.
