I'm sure some folks on the West Coast do view it that way. I'm equally sure some folks on the East Coast view it that way. If you want a good data sample, you need to do a statistically valid poll. One individuals anecdotal collection of data usually tends only to confirm that one individual's prejudices- imo. Most people are not out actively seeking data contrary to their beliefs. I won't say there isn't anyone out there seeking such data, but I don't think most people are. However, if I were presented with an unbiased poll showing me that the foregoing were not true, I'd be perfectly open to it.
Edit- just as a guess, I'd suspect the folks at the Voice have been touched by 9/11 in some ways. Yet they think as I do. It's not about what touches you, but about how you respond to it, and people will respond in different ways. Hard as it may be to believe, two people can confront the same horrific situation and respond in completely different ways- that's just the way people are. It doesn't make anyone crazy, or irresponsible, or unfit to be a parent, it just makes us human beings with a diversity of background, core beliefs and values, and potential for response.
