"Off the Record, Bush Makes Media Inroads" washingtonpost.com President Bush has apparently been trying to build bridges with the media through off-the-record confabs with journalists. Under standard journalistic ethics (snort) reporters are barred from reporting on these off-the-record conversations. But the WaPo found a loophole for itself <<< “White House officials said they also hoped the meetings' mere existence would remain under wraps. That proved impossible when journalists from The Post who were not participants in the session, as well as those at other publications, learned of the meetings from sources outside the paper and began to report on them.” >>> And this article appeared in the Washington Post! So let's see: the president granted an off-the-record conversation to the Post, which someone leaked to a Post reporter who wasn’t at the off-the-record avail, that person then reported on the off-the-record conversations (which they were not privy to), and now the Post breaks that story about itself. We’re almost at the point where papers like the Post need an MSM section just to cover its own malfeasance. The only question left is which sleazebag reporter who did attend the off-the-record avails leaked the information to the Post reporter(s) who didn’t attend the meetings?
