Mr. Holland's Opus

Stephen Spruiell Reporting

The NYT can't even keep its liberal politics out of its music reviews. Of course, it must be harder when the performance being reviewed is political, but still I found this passage from Bernard Holland's "Critic's Notebook" in today's NYT a little over the top:

<<< [Narrators Howard] Zinn and [David] Barsamian affirmed that war, dictatorship, racism, censorship, President Bush and general inhumanity are wrong. One could find little to argue against, but neither was there much new ground covered. Still, it was nice to be reminded. >>>

I'm confused by the phrase "One could find little to argue against" — could one quibble with the inclusion of President Bush on a list with dictatorship and racism, or the omission from said list of Vice President Cheney, Halliburton and The Shaggy Dog?
