The longest nanotubes yet produced measure only a few inches,

I met Michael Laine at dragoncon a couple years back. There were some physicists and some nasa guys there too during his presentation. Laine said actually there were some nanotubes that were getting into the several feet long ranges back then, but that everyone got all hush hush with sharing thier research and stopped telling each other when they made newer lengths. I talked to some of the bigger geeks there and some of them said their friends over at GOOG where taking some of thier GOOG money and gonna invest in his space elevator. I like the concept - but michael laine is really no scientist - his partner had all the credentials. This is exciting stuff though - maybe we will live long enough to boldy go into space Mish.
