You may be partially right, but some, like me, are more concerned about the blatant disregard for our laws. I know, I know, I'm sure you could cite example after example where our laws are ignored or flaunted. Two wrongs don't make a right.

It reminds me of gun laws and politicians that continue to enact more laws wishing/hoping/praying that crimes committed with guns will go away. Of course they don't and won't unless the excellent laws already on the books are enforced.

Many of us are just plain sick that politicians don't demand that these laws be enforced, lord knows average citizens have been clamoring for it, and I think many people are really angry, and frankly scared they aren't, as well as being disgusted about these so called solutions that go nowhere. It may end up being that breaking the law becomes a suitable excuse. Why bother when so many are easily ignored?
