I would think that using the hydrogen gas to power engines directly would be a better system than converting it to electricity and then motoring your way across the sea. Efficiency is lost in every storage system conversion.

Probably more efficient to use the hydrogen gas to power the props through a combustion engine.

As far as shipping large quantities of hydrogen in liquid form I bet it is as practical as LNG. I would bet that a tanker of that would be an incredible amount of energy. I just don't want it shipping into a port I live in. For safety sake they could use deepwater anchor with pipeline delivery to a onshore pumping facility.

That would make it less subject to terrorism or accident.

The Iceland proposal makes great sense. Lots of free energy to store in the form of liquid hydrogen.
