You are putting it incorrectly. Only when fed is not able to lower interest rates inspite of recession, we get into depression. Much like 1980s when interest rates were high inspite of recession OR like 1929s in UK, GErmany where interest rates were increasing inspite of recession. Now you are seeing that Iceland is going to increase the interest rate by 50 bp, NZ should follow. Looks like competitive increasing of interest rates have begun. Now all those moron CBs in NZ and Iceland should be wondering why did I not increase the interest rate a while earlier so that I could have squashed the CA deficit early on!! It is getting interesting....
