re: Yes, natural born Americans, not illegals, do those jobs here in Seattle. Consequently, labor costs are higher here than in cities where there is a large illegal population. Having lived in both, I much prefer this situation even if it means paying more money for services.
Here it is mixed. The guy that does my lawn, and almost every individuals lawns, are not illegal immigrants, not even recent immigrants, just plain old white guys trying to make a damn living. The guys that do the "common areas", hired by the association; the workers all appear be illegals.
It's tough to say "go home, you work too cheap, and you hurt our country" to these mostly good hard working folks. On the other side, if you don't say that, what does it do to Americans? I'm not "progressive" enough to give up my fellow countryman... to the idea of a border-less society.
