Contrary to what people think, there is no legal status to being married. The only advantage to it is that is a good tax dodge. Its tax status is not even necessary as anyone can declare a dependent at any time without a marriage license or other paper. You don't need a license to get married. That is all hooey. A tax on the stupid. Gays wanting to be married just show that they don't understand it. It does not confer on anyone any rights whatsover. If someone won't issue them a marriage license, it really doesn't matter. No one has the authority to issue a permit to marry. Divorce is a different issue, and the government has long interfered in that area. In fact since they did not legitimize marriage in any way, they had no business getting involved in divorce. EC<:-}
