Kowloon-Canton Railway Corp. Awards Unisys $5 Million Systems Integration Contract

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1997--Unisys Corp. Friday announced that it has won a $5 million systems integration contract from Kowloon-Canton Railway Corp. (KCRC) to design and implement an integrated Visual Information Display System (VIDS) for stations along the East Rail Division.

Under the contract, Unisys will set up VIDS in 10 stations along the KCRC East Rail. Unisys is providing project management, application design and development, system integration and installation services. Unisys will supply over 250 TV monitors, 100 PCs, 20 Sun workstations, MPEG video systems, video switches, UPS and cabling, as well as trunking and installation services.

Pang Kwok Wai, Electrical Engineering manager for KCRC, East Rail Division, said, "Quality service for passenger safety and comfort is always our goal. With the VID system, we can provide useful information including train services, safety information, emergency messages, commercial advertisement, etc. The benefits of the VIDS are much needed with a new generation of customers with high expectations."

The VIDS is capable of communicating with KCRC's new Train Control System, interfacing with the Station PA system and receiving data from third-party information networks.

Stephen Kucia, Unisys Hong Kong general manager said, "We are extremely pleased to win this contract. It has yet again confirmed Unisys as the leader in information management services. Our solution provides KCRC with the best cost-effective solution in compliance with the technical requirement and the required implementation time-frame."
