The Fighting Dems
On Wednesday, we faulted Nancy Reid and Harry Pelosi for boasting about how "strong" and "smart" they are while offering little by way of action to back up their assertions. During the 2004 presidential campaign, John Kerry* similarly kept talking about what a "fighter" he was, but there always seemed to be a lot more whine than fight in him.

So we have to give Rep. Cynthia McKinney, a Georgia Democrat best known for her anti-Semitic attitudes, credit. This week she proved that she is a real fighter. The Associated Press reports:

Capitol Hill police plan to issue an arrest warrant today for Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.).

The warrant is related to the incident Wednesday when McKinney allegedly slapped a Capitol Hill police officer.

Charges could range from assault on a police officer, which is a felony carrying a possible five year prison term, to simple assault, which is a misdeamenor [sic]. . . .

The six-term congresswoman apparently struck a Capitol Police officer when he tried to stop her from entering a House office building without going through a metal detector. Members of Congress wear identifying lapel pins and routinely are waved into buildings without undergoing security checks. The officer apparently did not recognize McKinney, she said in a statement.

Pelosi called the alleged assault "a mistake, an unfortunate lack of recognition of a member of Congress" and added, "I would not make a big deal out of this." Finally comes along a Democrat with the backbone to stand up and fight, and the lily-livered leadership is embarrassed by it!

* The celery-hating, French-looking Massachusetts Democrat, who by the way swerved in Vietnam.
