I doubt if slavery would have survived the war very long if the South had won. Robert E. Lee wasn't real fond of the "peculiar institution". He wasn't alone.

Which is not to say that blacks would have had any status. But being bought and sold on the Internet would not be one of the things that would have been in the cards.

Harry Turtledove in his The Great War series has Lincoln eventually leaving the Repubilican party in the wake of the defeat and becoming a Marxist and founding the American Socialist party. A series of events that would have been possible. I don't think he would have stood for the Republicans drift into defending the interests of business.
