Like etchmeister said, people do learn from experience.

Still the puzzle is what is AMD getting from Chartered ?

is it

1- capacity ?

The problem with this answer is that there's got to be lots of not-yet-employed capacity at AMD's fab 36.

2- 65 nm process expertise.

The problem with this answer is whether outsourcing leading edge products actually works out ?

Dr. Ruiz's answer (quoted earlier) says it does not work well. And in fact it turned out that it did not work well (UMC). maybe he changed his mind, or sees there is no other quick way to get to 65 nm at this time.
