STMicro (3G) and Nokia

On March 3, Mark Lipacis of Prudential reported ...

We met with Tait Sorensen, Senior Manager of IR with STMicroelectronics. Looking forward, the company has a number of products that could be meaningful growth drivers in 2006 and 2007, including incremental revenue opportunities in applications processors and 3G digital basebands as well as market share recapture in set top box. ... STM has an announced design win with Nokia for its Nomadik applications processor as well as other tier-one wins. The company expects Nomadik to begin ramping in volume in the 2H 2006 with meaningful volumes (100s of millions annually) in 2007. The company believes it has a power consumption advantage over Texas Instrument’s competing product, OMAP. Another key opportunity is the company’s 3G digital baseband. STM has announced an ASIC design win that is expected to ramp in 2H 2006 and should see meaningful volume in 2007. STM believes its new 90nm products will enable it to recapture some of the share lost in 2005.
