That is an excellent piece by Ed Gillespie. I am 100% behind GWB's plan for a guest worker program (that includes a possible path to citizenship) that is tied to more enforcement at the borders. Not only is it the right thing to do, it would be an economic and social disaster for the U.S. to pursue an option that leads to the wholesale deportation of illegal aliens. As for the politics, we only need to recall how Pete Wilson incinerated the GOP in California with Proposition 189. The bastard was gearing up to run for President and needed to establish some "conservative" credentials.
