Mqurice,

OK, so once someone has already paid for an all-you-can-eat data service, Skype is free for in-country calls and is much cheaper than the telecoms’ long distance charges. Free at hot spots, until they charge for hot spots. Free WiFi makes sense, as ‘engineer’ and others have said, once you’ve already paid for the backhaul.

Likewise, once enough people pay for an all-you-eat wireless data service, the mobile Skype-to-Skype calls are free. My fix-line long distance charges are 10c/minute weekdays and 5c/minute on weekends. I have essentially free long distance on my cell phone since I have never exceeded the limit for calls. I hope all that money going to Telecom NZ does some good for the country. (Please don’t feel obligated to rant on this.)

In the U.S., the all-you-can-eat data wireless service must be less expensive than the 500 minutes that I pay for now on the cell phone before Skype makes inroads to wireless calling.

I think Skype would be great to connect buyers and sellers on the internet via EBay.

Best to you.
