Goldwater was associated with the extreme right of the party. He was on the historically wrong side of the civil rights debate, interested more in the rights of Lester Maddox to kick blacks out of his restarant using an axe, than for black folks to get their meal or their motel room. Yes he was taking a pricipled stand but it was wrong. The JBS was on the very extreme and Barry certainly denounced them but on occasion policies were in sync. Same as moveon and many dems.
