??? Of course it does. If there is a non-Iraqi manning a checkpoint, and an Iraqi replaces him, that's one non-Iraqi you can theoretically bring home. Every coalition member that is doing the "policing" work should have been replaced with an Iraqi a LONG time ago.

It's not that simple.

Never said it was. But Kurdistan (from what little outsiders like me know) appears to be the easiest salvageable portion of present day Iraq. Turning it into its own country would (I think) be well received by the Kurds. I'm just surprised how little serious consideration this type of planning appears to receive, and all we hear is "must keep the country together...must keep the country together" when one of the big problems seems to be that enough of the population of the different ethnicities don't like and/or trust each other.
