Just my wild-arsed guess, but all this profound rhetoric on immigration issues and all the debates in Congress on what to legislate are very, very likely to leave us with more or less the status quo, plus or minus some additional border enforcement. And the troubling, divisive issues will still be there, along with 11 million undocumented folks among us. I don't see a consensus remotely forming around any of the major points. Most people don't want them to be citizens (rewarding bad behavior), we don't a wall to keep them out (so say 69%), and we don't want a guest worker program (apparently). Back to square one.
