Actually, you don't have any "fuse" at all when it comes to defusing the challenge(s) of multiculturalism --remember: Europeans are no more happy about their illegal immigrants than Americans. And that's what we are discussing here. As for legal immigration, quotas in this country are much higher than they are in Europe. Under that venue, multiculturalism thrives in the US. Its the illegal immigration where problems develop........and in the past, Europe has had no where near the problem that the US has had. However, I suspect that's changing.
