Posters reacted to the term "freedom fighter" because it isn't the same thing as insurgent and you said it was- furthermore you said the Wa Po was calling them freedom fighters, and they quite clearly were not. The DOD would not be constantly using the term "insurgent" if it were equivalent to "freedom fighter". It's not unusual that people might react to what you said. I imagine if you began calling "horses" "cats" you might get a similar reaction, especially if you then began to tell people articles were about horses, when they were actually about cats (or vice versa). When you use a word in a way that 99% of the people in a country won't agree with, you can expect a reaction.

Is there anyone else who thinks freedom fighter and insurgent are equivalent terms? I mean when you've got the DOD against you, and you're a conservative, I'd think you'd begin to wonder if you were correct.
