K stands for Kryptonite You really haven't been around AMD very long have you! It was the code name, sort of, when AMD broke away from second-sourcing intel processors. Obviously goes back to the K5 then has stuck on all x86 cpus. So I guess you could say its a code for AMD x86 cpu. Remarkable AMD trivia.
