It is time to recognise Marriage as a religious institution, and remove any and all legal benefits from it. No Church Ritual should have the ability to confer legal rights on participants. There is no reason that donations to a church should be anymore tax deductible than any other private group, and equally now that most social work is done by civil authorities, there can be no reason why Church Properties are not assessed and forced to pay their fair share of property taxes. This from Ottawa..... The federal Conservatives say they will follow through on a campaign promise to hold a free vote in the House of Commons on same-sex marriage. While the issue was not mentioned in Tuesday's throne speech, Justice Minister Vic Toews says the vote will be held "sooner rather than later."
