Dangerous in terms of intent, yes, but on a scale that runs from small town thugs who want to rule things to the great military powers of pre-WW11 Germany and post-WW11 Soviet Union, the radical Islamists are way down the ladder.
Geezus Ed!! Both Hitler and Stalin were once "small town thugs".. Yet, through use of coercion, terror, and charismatic ideology, they were able to inflict untold suffering upon the world.
It seems to me that you're trying to deliberately ignore or underestimate the power of the Islamo-Fascist ideology in the Mid-East.
But my god man... They have oil!! Wealth!! They have the potential to hold the global economy by the economic gonads.
And Iran is not some two-bit country. They have a population that rivals Nazi Germany during WWII, dominating the regimes in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq.
What they lack is a convincing military that could take on their neighbor states head on head without considerable risk.
So they wage a war of terror, via proxy entities, including Al Qai'da, in order to disrupt and intimidate these nations.
And none of these nations is willing to push or provoke Iran by responding in kind.
There's a damn good reason the US sought to prop up the Shah of Iran. We recognized that, of all the states in the region, it held the greatest promise of achieving regional power status.
This has not changed.. Except that now it's the potential of the Islamo-Fascists to achieve that power in the face of a humiliating retreat by the US, the only superpower in the world.
Why you are so intent on traveling down this path of denial truly confounds me.
