I dislike Bush for so many reasons that I find it hard to describe dispassionately what I think is happening.

How objective does this sound:

The United States has had the misfortune to have elected a president who has very little grasp of any kind of reality other than the realities of how to get elected and how to get his own way, at least for a while. He does not know what is really happening or what he is really doing, but he is very good at making it appear that he knows, and at convincing other people that he knows. He is not a liar, but he does exhibit what has been called "the unconscious cunning of the convinced."

He mistakes his own inclinations and impulses for divine guidance, and acts according to these convictions. He looks for justifications and rationales for these inclinations, instead of assessing reality and then reaching well-informed and well-advised decisions in accord with reality. Without being consciously dishonest, he tries to mould reality to fit his own preconceptions. When reality eludes him, as when a major hurricane strikes New Orleans, he is slow to accept what has occurred.

The consequences of policies and actions not based upon reality are grave and long-lasting. The United States has already suffered major damage to its political position in both hemispheres. The economic damage of the reckless and irresponsible fiscal policies of the Bush administration will plague the United States for many years after the Bush presidency ends.
